New Update

Notebooks have seen a sea-saw battle with IBM and Compaq winning alternate years. But this year, IBM has retained the crown, by the same margin as last year. Toshiba, which was third last time, comes in at the same position, as does HP at fourth. A surprise entrant into

this elite group is Dell at number five.

A factor that should disturb the leaders in this segment is that for IBM, Compaq and Toshiba, fewer people say they will buy these brands in the future, than there are current owners. The reverse is the case with HP and Dell, with more people planning to buy these than there are current owners. Another surprising factor is that as a percentage of votes polled, Dell got maximum support from the home market! IBM got maximum support from software houses, while Compaq got it from

SMEs.
