Along with the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung showcased its Galaxy Gear smartwatch that can be paired with the latest Note phablet. Gear is more like the smartwatches available in the market from Sony, Pebble and host of other brands. Unlike these Android running smartwatch, Gear has been optimized with a different UI and is primarily seen as a paired device for the big display Note 3 phablet.

The Gear comes with a 1.6 inch Super AMOLED display and is powered by an 800 MHz dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM and an internal memory of 4 GB. The smartwatch supports Samsung Apps and can be connected to the Galaxy Note 3 via Bluetooth 4.0. One can browse through the Gear for message, listen to music, answer calls and even capture images with its 1.9 MP camera positioned on the strap, which Samsung calls Memographer. The Gear is loaded with a 312 mAh battery that as per claims should last the entire day and even more.

For the time being the Gear will be compatible with Galaxy Note 3, Note 10.1 2014 edition tablet and Galaxy S4 and one can expect Galaxy S3, Note 2 to also get support for Gear.

Galaxy Gear looks elegant with its metallic finish and available in vibrant colors like orange, black, white etc. Samsung has priced the Galaxy Gear at Rs 22,990 which does sound a lot for a paired device and only after using it one can determine whether the company has made the right decision or not.

The Gear will be available alongside Galaxy Note 3 from next week and right now, the wearable device is available for demo at 100 Samsung stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
