Commuters can simply scan the QR code placed at the toll payment counters using the Paytm app and pay their toll charge instantly. This will move, millions of daily commuters can bid goodbye to the hassles of long queues at tolls and the worries associated with dealing in cash.

Speaking at the launch, Kiran Vasireddy, Senior Vice President – Paytm said, “Dealing with loose change at toll plazas has become a major challenge for commuters and toll attendants alike as it slows down traffic and leads to excess fuel combustion and pollution. While recently traveling to Mandi, Himachal Pradesh I came across Toll Plaza boasting of Paytm availability, but neither of the five I stopped at, but one, accepted it in reality (both to and fro). Some complained of lack of internet connectivity while others’ phones ran out of battery. The only booth, near Karnal which did accept Paytm was coincidently the one with the highest toll too – INR 110.

While I understand, this could just be a one-time situation, my experience was poor with “Paytm Karo” at Toll booths in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

I took a rented self-driven car, and paying the interstate entry taxes was a bigger challenge – 220 for Punjab and 610 for Himachal (for car). Every commercial vehicle has to pay these and I believe trucks have to pay higher. It would be great if we could see Paytm associate with these Interstate booths for payment.
