Fortiora is a suite of security products and services from Tata Infotech. DEFT, or Data Encryption for Transmission is one of the products in the suite.

This homegrown product comes in two versions, lite and regular. The regular version is for corporate use and is currently being upgraded. The version we saw in action was the Lite one, meant for personal use. It can take any file on your PC, and encrypt it using standard encryption algorithms and digital signatures. The encrypted message can be automatically attached to a new e-mail message on your e-mail client. At the other end, it can open a similarly encrypted message and decrypt it.

The package also comes with a basic text editor that you can use to compose your text. Into this composed text, you can insert standard objects like graphics and encrypt the whole thing for e-mailing.
