The Problem: With more than 245 Municipal corporations and councils to manage, the govt of Maharashtra had difficulty in managing affairs as they lacked a consolidated database leading to unrestrained inefficiency and discrepancy in revenue.
The Solution: To create a uniform data base the government implemented MAINet, an integrated set of applications to manage the overall working of the municipal corporation, and provide real-time information management of all departments and other field offices. The new e-solution provides back office support to the municipality, which includes accounting, auditing, general administration, and integrated monitoring of the corporation. A Citizen Facilitation Center was also set up to provide a unified help desk specific to each department, allowing people to file complaints, ask questions, download forms, and avail online services.
The Result: The new e-solution brought about multiple benefits for the government of Maharashtra and the public by way of effective measurement and speedy completion of services, objective scrutiny for all application handling, instant availability of balance in each budget head, accurate forecasting and effective planning.
