This book scanner uses SEE (Shadow Elimination Element) technology, which enables you to scan pages clearly and edge-to-edge. So, no touching-up is required as for those scanned by flat-bed scanners. The scanning glass is slightly tilted toward outside, allowing you to lay the pages of a book flat on the scanner, this eliminates spine-shadows in the scanned image. However, the quality of scanned photo images is not that good. A bundled application, Book Pilot, helps you scan efficiently and easily. It then creates batches of the scanned files and sends them for OCR.If you are a librarian, student, teacher or a law officer then you can go for this feature-rich scanner. A utility software is bundled on the accompanying CD, which can send scanned images to your e-mail application; set wallpapers on your desktop, perform OCR and fax or print them. The software CD includes software such as Page Manager 6, Photo Impact XL SE, Ulead Photo Explorer 8 and

FineReader. An interesting feature is its musical functionality. You can set up, up to two different MP3, WAV, WMA or MIDI songs, one to play while scanning and other when scanning is complete. It uses high-speed USB 2.0 interfaces and can scan images of A4 size in just 7 secs at 300 dpi in color, gray scale or black & white.

The Bottom Line: It could be a good buy if you have a lot of book to scan. Not for individual photo scanning.
