Project Management by Example is a CBT package aimed at explaining project management to business school students. The content is structured like that of a book. There is also a daily training mode that breaks up the course into seven easy learning days. The program takes you through various stages in Project Management: Initiation, Planning, Executing, Controlling and Closing. A voice-over reads out the text. However, the coverage is not comprehensive and the diagnostic quiz preceding each section is too simplistic and allows you to skip sections a little too easily.

One would imagine that a subject like project management would ideally be taught by first enunciating the basic principles followed by case studies that illustrate its application yet. Comprehensive case studies and true scenario building is missing in the package; instead there are short examples, which although illustrate a single concept, fail to link it to the big picture.

There is no true interactivity in this package and it is effectively like reading an elementary textbook. Also, unlike a book, highlighting or annotation of text is impossible. Moreover, the CBT does not have any Web links or suggested references for further reading. Instead, it treats things like the world is an island.

Overall, a very basic CBT for project management. Its price of Rs 2,500 per student (and not per

terminal) is exorbitant considering that the only reason for an institution might buy it is for claiming

E-learning facilities.
