SnapServer has a flash memory chip that hosts a proprietary UNIX OS, which emulates Win NT. The OS is optimized for storage. All server functions, including user access and administration, are done using a Web browser. On the administration front, you can either create users on the SnapServer or import user lists from your existing Win NT or NetWare servers. The latter can be useful in that users don’t have to remember separate user ids and passwords for the SnapServer to access it. They can access data on the SnapServer using either a Web browser or Network Neighborhood (if using Windows). SnapServer also supports disk quotas to ensure that users don’t exceed their allocated hard-drive space.
The NAS device is available in different capacities of 40, 80, 160, 240, 400 and 960 GB. Some of the models are available in multiple capacities. The entry-level models are also portable.
