3ivx is an MPEG-4 toolkit that supports MPEG-4 Video, MPEG-4 Audio and the MP4 file formats. For this toolkit, you need 'RAD Video Tool' and the MPEG-4 codec. We have given these on this month's PCQXtreme CD. First, copy the RADTools.exe and 3ivx_d4_451_ win.exe from the CD to your desktop and install them. Then, reboot your machine and perform the following:

Step1 Run RAD Video Tool from Start>Programs>Brink and Smacker on the interface that opens. Select the QuickTime .mov file that you want to convert. Select it from the selection window and click on 'Convert a File' given below the window.

Step 2 Now, you will get another window, where you can configure the video and audio parameters of the video file. In the 'output file info' section, click on the 'Browse' button to specify where to save the final .avi file, which will be created during this process. In the same window, on the right side, you will get six buttons. Click on the 'Convert' button here.

Step 1: Select the .mov file to convert in to MPEG-4

Step 2: Do the settings for cropping and sound quality

Step 3 Now, you will get the Video Compression window. If you want to edit a small clip, select 'Full Frames (Uncompressed)' option and click on OK. It starts encoding and in a few minutes you will get an uncompressed video. This video can be edited further using VirtualDub software. If you have a bigger QuickTime video file, then select 'Huffyuv' format from the Video Compression window and use your editing software. This should give better video quality than other uncompressed formats.

Step 3: Set video compression to '3ivx D.4.5 video

codec'

Step 4: Set 'MPEGQuantizer(ASP)'

Step 4 Once you have edited the clip, return to the RAD Video Tool, and select the edited version of the .avi file and click on the 'Convert a file' button. On the window that opens click on the Convert button. From the Video Conversion window in the drop-down list, select '3ivx D.4.5.1 video codec' and click on Configure. Here, you will get the 3ivx configuration window. Click on the 'Advanced Properties' tab and check ON the 'MPEG Quantizer (ASP)' and OK. In a few minutes, you will get the MPEG-4 format video. If you just want to convert the QuickTime (.mov) files to MPEG-4 format without editing, skip the second step. Finally play this converted video file on a media player.
