Altec Lansing is a very old brand that deals in audio products.  Altec has piled up its audio product line with a number of on and in-ear headphones. Now they have added a new member Altec Lansing MZX147 in-ear headphone with dual color stripped cable and metallic driver casing. The MRP of Altec Lansing MZX147 is Rs 1590 but at online you may get it at Rs 780.  We have used this in-ear headphone about 2 weeks and on the basis of our experience with the device, here is our opinion about it.

Build and Design

Even the Altec Lansing MZX147 in-ear headphone comes in the budget but that doesn’t mean you have to comprise in terms of quality. The headphone driver casing is built with metal whereas the cable is of rubber that has white color strips on it. The overall design of headphone is not something unique but some add-ons on the black color driver such as silver color strips at front and back along small grills on left and right of the driver look very nice. It has flat cable design that houses an outer insulation layer to add sturdiness. At the cable partition, it has in-line remote and mic. It uses a volume control slider to control the volume directly from the remote.  Beside volume slider, there is a single button to accept/reject calls, and play/pause music. The in-line mic works fine and picks up audio well. The insulation of cable at the driver end is good but at the 3.5mm jack it is average and can damage easily. The cable is tangle free and if it somehow gets tangled you can untangle it easily.

Altec Lansing MZX147 In-ear

Audio Performance

The Altec Lansing MZX147 come with extra pair of ear tips S, M, L. The driver size is 10mm and the frequency at which it can work is 20Hz-20kHz.   To test this in-ear headphone, we used test tracks: Angel of Mercy by Black Label Society,  Stadium Arcadium, brutal bass drops, trance music and Bollywood romantic and dance songs. The MZX147 delivers a well-balanced sound and its frequency distribution is also well managed. The amount of bass fidelity is good and bass lovers can use it to enjoy bass music. If you talk about the vocals then it can be better as somewhere between treble and bass it becomes tough for it to stand.   The mids sound clear and warm and provide enough detailing to keep enjoy favorite music.  At the highest volume, the headphone provide ample amount of loudness and at the same level, we found some amount of noise leakage too.
