Asus announced the next generation ZenFone series smartphones targeting selfie enthusiasts. The new Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam, as the name suggests, comes with dual camera setup at the front. Let's find out how impressive selfies, it can capture...
Looks decent
The new Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam device follows the company’s existing design philosophy. The Zenfone 4 Selfie looks pretty decent and has balanced dimensions. It is quite comfortable to hold in one hand. The phone is slim at just 7.9mm and bezels on the sides have been chopped down quite a bit though. The metal body looks and feels great, and the best part it isn’t slippery thanks to the back finish but sadly it attracts smudges.
Amazing Screen
The 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen produces good colors with a great amount of brightness. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has a 2.5d contour. The phone is perfect to enjoy movies and games without any trouble, as well as can share the screen with friends and family as thanks to wide viewing angles. Having the great amount of brightness, the phone can be used in direct sunlight, but sunlight legibility isn’t great.
Interesting Apps and performance
Thankfully, this phone is loaded with essential apps plus interesting apps like Selfie Master. The app lets you capture images or shoot video, create a collage or you can go live with the BeautyLive mode.
The new ZenUI 4.0 is simpler, faster and even smarter, it gets a new visual design with a minimalist layout that highlights only the most used and essential apps to help you navigate life. It comes with Twin Apps, enabling users to create copies of the same app on their phones, so they can stay logged in to two accounts on the same app simultaneously.
The new Gallery is equipped with powerful AI tools that can organize your photos using facial recognition. Create your preferred groups of friends or family members, and Gallery will swiftly sort all group photos of the selected individuals into your predefined groups.
Another interesting feature is Page Marker for Chrome browser that lets you save an article to read later. Moreover, Safeguard SOS app is also there for personal safety that lets the user’s friends and family track their path online whenever they send them their location. And if any dangerous situation develops, SOS mode can immediately call preset contacts or local emergency services as well as record the user’s conversation to help them stay safe.
Performance
I used the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam for more than three weeks and it runs quite good with moderate usage. I stuffed it with numerous apps which we use in our daily life as well as some high graphics intensive games. It handled them easily without any visible performance lag. I never encounter any major issue, even while playing graphics intensive games.
Camera and battery
It’s a selfie smartphone, thus you can expect to have the great camera at the front, it holds two 20 + 8 MP sensors with a soft LED flash. It captures wide selfies and groufies with rich colors. Details are also good with the front camera, but the bright areas are overexposed. Low light shots come pretty clear thanks to soft flash, but it’s not the great one.
Using the beauty mode of the front camera you can do a lot more. The Beauty Mode intelligently enhances the subject’s face with makeup-like effects including skin softening and brightening, blush and color correction, eye enhancement and even cheek-thinning.
The rear 16 MP camera is perfect for daylight shots with detailed landscapes and macros.
Indoor shots are also good with great details and less noise. The camera app is packed with various functions and pro mode to enhance your shooting experience.
The Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam is backed by a 3000mAh battery, that can last for more than a day with moderate usage. In our video loop test, it manages to play 9 hours and 55 minutes video over wifi with full volume and brightness.
