Brother DCP-J105 Inkjet MFP

Brother recently launched two 3-in-1 inkjet Multi-Function Centres, DCP-J100 InkBenefit and DCP-J105 InkBenefit. We got the latter one for review.

Space savy design with rich features:

The DCP-J105is quite compact and can fit almost anywhere.  It has 1-Line LCD control panel along with various buttons to adjust to desired printing/copying modes. The main feature of this MFP is the Laminated Piezo Print Head. Lamination Technology allows the use of stainless steel elements for lamination of the print head. This protects the print head from corrosion, giving it a longer life span. With Piezo Technology that delivers a safer and lower temperature operation, the print head doesn’t wear out easily. This minimizes repair and replacement costs, which translates into valuable savings for users.

Moreover, with individual ink cartridge system, users may replace individual color only when required, to avoid unnecessary wastage. Thus, you can still print in black even if color cartridges run out. It also has built-in wireless for easy networking or sharing the MFP among a small group.

Good Performance: The installation is breeze and the entire operation from start to printing a test page took a few minutes. In standard ISO tests with 5% ink coverage it printed 5 B/W A4 pages in a minute with first page out in 14 seconds. 4 color A4 pages were out in a minute with first page out in 16 seconds in normal print mode. Text printed was sharp and crisp. If you want to print more pages and can compromise on print quality, the MFP can print B/W A4 10 pages in a minute having the first page out in 11 seconds and 6 color pages in fast mode. Print quality is decreased, texts, images were faded and colors didn’t retain originality.

When we printed photographs, pie- charts and various real-world images, the MFP delivered good color reproduction. When we reduced the ink coverage and tried to print few lines of text, the print speed is increased. The prints are water resistant and do not loose color or smudge when brought in contact with water. It copied 5 black and white and 3 color pages in a minute.

You can make a maximum of 99 copies at a time. You can easily produce 2-up and 4-up on a single sheet with N-in-one function. This saves paper when viewing drafts or layouts. The MFP is also capable of mobile print. From the iPrint&scan app we were able to print directly from iPhone. The app also works for iPad and iPod touch. Plus, you can scan documents from your Multi-Function Centre straight to your Apple gadgets. The scan feature works fine and you can scan directly to e-mail, or PC. It took 20 seconds to scan a B/W page and 32 seconds to scan a color A4 page in pdf format.
