The smartphone comes with a larger display but similar build quality and design as its predecessor—Desire 816

HTC 816 G shares the same design aesthetics as that of its previous sibling HTC Desire 816, but is available at a comparatively lower price. The device bundles a slew of features and houses a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, better than the previous one.

Plastic body with glossy finish: With entire plastic body, it looks similar to the older Desire 816. The front panel is made with matte plastic while the un-removable back panel comes with glossy finish that works as a magnet to attract smudges and scratches. Two speaker vents and the 5 MP front camera are placed at the front of the phone. It gets a tall screen and 8mm thickness of the device makes it easy to grab in one hand, but difficult to operate.

A performer at an affordable price: Though, it shares the same design and display size with Desire 816, but offers better performance. The 5.5 inch SLCD2 display with 720 pixel resolution offers good viewing angles and usable even in direct sunlight. It houses the same display panel as Desire 816, but it’s not a full HD display and the 720 pixel resolution is slightly low for 5.5-inch large display.

The HTC Desire 816G packed a 1.3GHz Quad Core processor paired with 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory and expandable up to 32GB via Micro SD card. But, surprisingly, it doesn’t come with octa core processor like other devices such as Huawei Honor 6. However, the quad-core MediaTek processor performs well. Some popular apps and games work smoothly and even while playing heavy games, it performed outstanding with sound and graphics. The 816G runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS over HTC Sense 5 UI on the top. The device runs smooth even with heavy usage.

Desire 816G boasts 13 MP camera with BSI sensor and flash. It has a 28 mm lens capable of full HD video recording. The rear camera is decent to click detailed images in daylight with accurate colors. You can even shoot a quality video in daylight but low light attracts noise. The 5 MP front camera is good enough for quality selfies and video chats.

Long-lasting power back-up: HTC is backed by 2600 mAh Li-Poly battery that keeps it running for an entire day. During our test, it lasted for about 4 hours and 16 minutes while playing videos on full brightness and sound. Though, it’s not a tremendous performance but you can keep using the phone for a day.
