Videocon has introduced 12 new DDB LED TV's with Liquid Luminous Technology with sizes ranging from 24 to 55 inches. All of the TV's feature Videocon's Digital Direct Broadcast (DDB), which allows direct reception of the digital signal, with the digital set-top box built into the TV itself.

Design and features

It is a generic looking TV with black bezels all around. It sits on a pair of legs splayed far to the edges creating a wider area to rest on. The remote control is easy to use and houses almost all functionality into it.  According to Videocon, the  Liquid Luminous technology is capable of producing 95% of the natural colors over the conventional LED of up to 72%. Connect Videocon DDB directly to your phone and other compatible devices with the MHL cable to enjoy seamless playback of all your content including movies, videos, images and media on your DDB. The TV is also equipped with Audio return channel wherein you can transfer audio from the TV back to a home  theatre receiver or listen through your home theatre audio system instead of the TV's speakers.

What is DDB technology and what's in it for you?

Digital Direct Broadcast (DDB) allows direct reception of the digital signals with minimum or no transmission loss for a clear and bright HD viewing experience. It also adds in cloud computing for storing your files. Further, the USB PVR (Personal Video recorder) technology allows one to record live content and watch it at the same time. One can also play and pause live TV at their convenience. DDB Series is also loaded with some of the most incredible features such as – Soen Sound, Smart Connect (HDMI – CEC), Over the air software upgrade to name a few.

The main advantage is the signal reception. Even in set-top-boxes, the signals received from the satellite are downscaled before they are transmitted and you finally watch content on the TV. The DDB technology overcomes this by integrating set-top within the chip inside the TV, so the received signal is directly transmitted without any downscaling.

The downside to this tech is that you cannot use the DBB Technology in their existing TV sets and consumers will have to purchase DBB enabled TV sets.

Performance

In terms of picture quality, I will not put this TV on the top list but it's likely good enough for most viewers. It delivered good contrast ratio, decent and accurate color production and so was the sound quality.

Watching the Interstellar in 1080p the TV delivered good blacks in dark scenes like the void of space, and in dark areas of mixed scenes like the backgrounds behind the astronauts. The color accuracy was good and Bright colors, like the green of the corn fields and the deep blue of the lake, were nicely balanced and saturated too, however Anne Hathway's face appeared red and so were the white and gray gear in the background. The transition from one scene to another was smooth without any blurred effects thanks to Liquid Luminous diffusion film technique.  Overall the picture looked soothing and comfortable to eyes without extending any stress.

Due to built in set-top the DDB LED TV does not start instantly as you turn the power on, instead the LED at the bottom middle bezel blinks for sometime till the set -top is ready which takes around 10-12 seconds. The equipped SOEN sound technology produced clear audio and decent bass impact in movies and music.  If you care about sound then we recommend you investing in some good speakers or an audio system.
