Samsung brings new 850 PRO and 845DC EVO SSDs

Samsung Electronics launched the 850 PRO, a new solid state drive (SSD) line-up featuring Samsung's three-dimensional (3D) vertical NAND (V-NAND) flash memory technology. The new Samsung 850 PRO will be available globally across 53 markets from this month.

Based on Samsung's proprietary V-NAND technology, the new 850 PRO is for high-end PCs and workstations. Samsung's V-NAND features a proprietary vertical cell structure and represents a breakthrough in overcoming the density limit currently facing planar NAND architecture used in conventional flash memory.

Samsung said that 850 offers high level of performance among SSDs using the SATA III (6Gb/s) interface. It has a sequential read performance reaches up to 550 megabytes per second (MB/s), with write performance of up to 520MB/s. Random read performance is up to 100,000 input/output operations-per-second (IOPS), with write speeds of up to 90,000 IOPS. The drive also offers a Dynamic Thermal Guard feature, which maintains ambient temperature while operating and prevents potential data loss from overheating. The Samsung 850 PRO will be available in 128 gigabyte (GB), 256GB, 512GB and 1 terabyte (TB) storage capacities.

Samsung also introduced 845DC EVO Solid State Drives (SSD), a new SSD line designed to use in data centers. 845DC EVO is designed for read-intensive data center applications, such as video/content streaming, application and web servers. It has Samsung's 10-nanometer class 3-bit NAND flash memory and the firmware is based on the Samsung PM853T SSD, which has been tested and qualified for system compatibility by leading server system manufacturers.

It is available in 240GB, 480GB and 960GB storage capacities and has a sequential read speeds of up to 530 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 87,000 IOPS for random reads, while offering a warranty of up to 600 TBW (total bytes written).Samsung 845DC EVO's active power consumption is approximately 4 watts, which is as little as 25 percent that of equivalent HDD technology for the data center.
