New Update

Samsung recently added two new TVs to its F9000 series of UHD (Ultra High-Definition)TVs--55-inch and 65-inch variants. We received the former for review. The two variants offer eight million pixels and a resolution that's four times higher than full HD.

Design and Feature:

The 55-inch panel comes with a minimalist design and is surrounded by a black bezel with a thin chrome lining and and a sturdy, all-metal, crescent-shaped stand. It has built-in speakers and subwoofers that are hidden and give you 70W sound output. One of the key highlights and path breaking features in this model is the One Connect Box. This box reduces clutter and merges all your connections such as cable boxes, Blu-ray players and more into a single cable that plugs into the back of the Ultra HD TV. It also helps keep it up to date with the latest software and fully prepares your TV for future 4K features. Another notable feature in this UHD TV is the Quadmatic Picture Engine which adapts the source image, eliminates visual noise and improves the detail and sharpness of the image before up-scaling the picture to be displayed in UHD resolution.

Performance:

We tested the SD and HD content provided by Samsung. In the SD content, we noticed the images were a touch noisier after the upscale. And the HD content looks very similar to any other HD TV, but we must say that the up-scaled image were slightly sharper, crisper, more detailed than any other UHD TV available in the market now. When we played the UHD content, we felt the difference for sure. It has a greater perceived depth of the image and the finesse of rendered colour blends. The One Connect box is little heavy and houses all the HDMI, component, composite, optical, and Ethernet ports, in addition to the quad-core SOC that powers all the Smart TV features. Another benefit of this One Connect box is that upgrading is now easy. If Samsung shifts octa-core smart TV next time all you just have to do is swap the One Connect module. Speaking of smart TV features, the UHD packs a camera as well as a microphone. So you can control and command the TV with the voice recognition and gesture controls. This UHD TV also has features like web browsing, video conferencing, 3D capability, and all the fancy features and apps.
