Samsung Z Flip 5 Dominates Fold Test

At the Galaxy Unpacked event in July, Samsung introduced the premium Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphone alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5. This year's clamshell foldable phone includes software upgrades and a redesigned hinge, allowing a zero gap when folded. Aside from the look, Samsung fans were concerned about the durability of the new Flex hinge. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears to be more durable than claimed. A YouTuber tested the flip phone, and it survived over 400,000 folds without any damage to the hinge or display. Unlike Motorola's Razr 40 Ultra, Samsung's flip phone endured 126,266 fold cycles.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was pitted against the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra

From 2 August to 9 August, Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd and his team conducted a livestream durability test of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on their YouTube channel. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was pitted against the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra in the "Great Folding Test Vol II" to see which device broke first. People folded and unfolded each phone as many times as it took to shatter one. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 survived 4,01,146 folds before failing to stay open or closed throughout the test. Despite the hinge damage, the display worked, and performance appeared unaffected.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 easily topped 2,67,000 manual folds. After around 2,23,000 folds, the hinge began to exhibit signs of wear. On the other hand, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra started to exhibit issues as early as 43,000 folds, with its hinge lasting only 1,26,367 folds.

The Youtuber also tested the Galaxy Z Flip 5's water resistance. He soaked the phone in water and covered it in dust and filth. The foldable has an IPX8 water resistance rating, which protects against water immersion but not against dust. The live broadcast on YouTube is no longer available.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 with 256GB storage costs Rs. 99,999 in India.

The Armour Aluminium frames of Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 house a 6.7-inch full-HD (1,080x2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex inner display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
