New Update

This monochrome laser based MFD from Samsung can print, scan, copy and fax. It connects to a PC via Parallel or USB1.1 interface. There’s an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) unit that can handle 30 sheets while scanning or copying. And it has a 16X2 LCD display.

The MFD’s performance is very good. In fact, it’s better than that of other similar MFDs from vendors such as Sharp and Xerox, which we reviewed in our MFD shootout last May (Find the Best MFDs, page no.72). The Samsung MFD managed to print A4 size monochrome text at 16 ppm, which is slightly lower than its rated 17 ppm. The text printout quality was clear, but line art and curves need improvement, since there were breaks in the lines.

Samsung SCX 4216F could copy an A4 size text page at 15 ppm, which is little lower than the rated 16 ppm. Copy quality was excellent, and you can scale it from 25% to 400% of the original size. The scanning unit supports an optical resolution of 600 dpi and enhanced resolution of 4800dpi. It took 22 secs to do a preview scan, and 1 min and 54 secs to scan a full-page color image at 300dpi, and 46 secs for a full page of text. It also lets you scan to OCR, which saves documents in editable plain text, and rich text formats. The MFD’s fax unit has 4 MB memory that can store more than 300 pages. It supports fax forwarding and sending faxes to multiple destinations. Its a good solution for small offices.
