Set up your USB Webcam

To set up USB webcams on PCQLinux, you need to go through the following steps.

  • Install drivers for the webcam (if necessary)
  • Load USB module
  • Load webcam driver module

Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000



PCQLinux 8.0 bundles the drivers for Quickcam Pro 3000. So, to set it up you need to load the USB module and the webcam driver module as.

#modprobe uhci



#modprobe pwc

If, during installation, you have already done the first step, then you need not repeat it.

Logitech Quickcam Express



On the third CD of this issue we have provided an RPM containing the Quickcam Express drivers. Mount the CD and install the RPM qce-ga-0-40d.i386.rpm from system/cdrom/dev/srccode on the CD. Then,

issue the following commands.

#depmod —a



#modprobe mod_quickcam

In case you get an error saying ‘Ccannot locate module’, restart your PC and issue the modprobe

command. 

IBM PC Camera



Issue the following commands to get it up and running.

#modprobe uhci



#modprobe ibmcam

If you own a different model of webcam, don’t despair. Most popular webcams are fully or at least partially supported on Linux. A search on the Internet

can get you the drivers as well as the procedure to set them up.
