The latest addition to the BlackBerry family is targeting youngsters with dedicated buttons for BBM and FM radio and an offer to download free apps worth 2.5k. A first in low range BlackBerry segment, FM with its huge young market will induce more to opt for BlackBerry phones. It is incredibly priced at just 10k, which makes it the second best budget smartphone from BlackBerry after Curve 8520. What sets it apart from the old, but very popular, non 3G BlackBerry curve is its light form at 103gms, sleek looks, a better keyboard with bigger keys and dedicated external buttons for BBM, camera and screen lock/unlock. The 2.44 inch screen offers better visuals and the 2MP camera clicks decent pictures and videos.

Curve 9220's 1450mAh battery gives 2 days of back-up on standby and 6 hours on comprehensive usage that includes web browsing, playing games, playing music, watching HD videos, clicking pictures and using BBM, which is very reassuring. It is 1.2 mm thinner than Curve 8520 and has 512 MB RAM and 800 MHz processor. It includes pdf support, BlackBerry protect, BBM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, social networking apps, 32GB expandable memory and BBM app store which has over 60,000 apps. The new OS 7.1 makes it faster and if you can spend some more money go for its 3G variant called 9320, priced at 15k.

Bottomline: BlackBerry's newest budget phone is superior to the cheapest BlackBerry phone, Curve 8520, but isn't offering anything substantial for youngsters and professionals!
