This combo drive can read and write CDR media at 48X in turbo mode and at 40X in default mode. It can rewrite CD-RWs at 24X and has a 16X DVD read speed. It offers 2 MB built-in buffer memory and also supports power burn to prevent writing errors.
We evaluated the drive on a P4 1.70 GHz machine with 256 MB RAM and 15 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. For all the tests, we used Samsung 48X media. The drive took 3 min 5 sec to burn 650 MB data on a 48X CDR media, and 3 min to create an audio CD from 73 min WAV file. On the CD duplication front, it took 5 mins and 27 secs to create a data CD and 4 mins to duplicate an Audio CD. On CD-RW front, the drive did very well and took only 7 mins and 28 secs to format a 700 MB CD-RW media and gave around 1.3 MBps average throughput.

Finally, we tested its DVDs functionality with Nero CD-DVD Speed. It was able to read the DVD at the maximum speed of 12X, while its rated speed was 16X. Overall, the drive gave us good performance in each test. It’s a wise choice for users who are looking for upgrading their old CD drives.
