A worldwide update for PlayStation 5 has been released by Japanese electronics giant Sony. It includes a number of features from the most recent PS5 beta. This entails additional audio choices, accessibility features, and communication channels with other players. In addition to this, customers will have additional Android devices on which to enjoy PS Remote Play.
Sony stated that other improvements will also be made to the PS app in the upcoming weeks in a blog post that also announced the upgrade.
PS Remote Play to support Chromecasts
Sony's PS Remote Play app allows users to stream games from their PS5 or PS4 console to other devices. This includes devices such as smartphones and tablets (both iOS and Android), PCs and Macs. PS games can be streamed over the internet as this feature also gives users more options to access their favorite games even when they are away from their consoles.
The company has confirmed that the PS Remote Play app is available on devices running Android TV OS 12. The app is compatible with confirmed devices including Chromecast with Google TV (4K model) and Bravia XR A95L model. To use remote play on these devices, users need to search for and install the PS Remote Play app on their Android phone.
Sony also confirmed in a blog post that it will be rolling out some new features to the PS app (both Android and iOS) globally. Just like the PS5 console, users can reply to messages with emojis and preview someone's Share Screen before joining the party in the PS app.
What are the new accessibility features in this upgrade?
The company now allows PS5 users to set up a second controller on one account for help. Users can connect two controllers to use their PS5 console. In addition, Sony offers users the option to enable haptic feedback when navigating their console using the DualSense controller, the DualSense Edge controller or the PS VR2 Sense controller.
Support for Dolby Atmos compatible audio devices
PS5 users can now enjoy 3D audio powered by Sony Tempest 3D AudioTech on compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices such as sound bars, TVs or home theater systems.
New multiplayer features
PS5 users can now invite a player to a closed party without automatically adding the player to a group or creating a new group. Additionally, players can now send party invites (both open and closed) to groups instead of individual players.
When someone shares their screen in a party, users will now see a preview of their Share Screen even before entering the party. PS5 users can also see in the Friends tab which of their friends are participating in activities they can join.
This update also introduces the Game Hub Tournament Plate. In this section, users can now see how many tournaments they have entered, their highest rank and the start time of their next tournament.
