The company faced issues in business planning processes, and was using
non-standard business planning across all the business units. Plus, the
monitoring of business performance online to check past performance was not
available. They deployed SAP ERP which is the transaction platform, and along
with it SAP BI was used for reporting & dashboarding with analytics. SAP BPC
which is used for Business Planning was also implemented. It also drove a
seamless integration amongst SAP ERP, SAP BI and SAP BPC using a common
platform.
One of the challenges faced was the standardization of business planning taking
in consideration the specific requirements of the business lines that were
across 5 business lines of Sterlite Technologies. So, all the important data
from past and present had to be collated and customized in the form of reports.
Another challenge was related to speed as the designing & integration of
reports/dashboard was also a major factor considering the flow of information in
it. Also, the integration had to be accurate and seamless considering the
sensitive nature of data that was involved.
The impact of the project can be considered in terms of two factors:
Productivity Gains and Analytics. The automation based on new technologies,
accurate and structured Business Planning, and savings on time are also some of
the benefits. For Analytics, Alerting, Alarming, ad-hoc reporting are also some
benefits that helps in decision making.
