Due to the pandemic when economies across the globe took a hit, organizations started thinking of newer ways to do business and move away from traditional methods as it was not proving beneficial due to various restrictions. That is when AI was needed, as organizations wanted to understand the current situation based on past historical data and how it can be leveraged beneficially for their organization. AI is the best possible solution that came into picture as it provided them not only the insights from past but also about what is going to happen in future and what needs to be done to get maximum returns, said Chandrasekhar Balasubramanyam, Vice President, Insights & Data - India, Capgemini.

What are some of the major issues that are faced by the customers in implementing AI?

There are no such issues with AI, but the challenges do come when data is not properly organized, therefore the problem of data biasness arises for customers. AI provides possible drivers as per customer requirement based on data. But, in case if data has some challenges which may be due to multiple reasons like source, way of collection, storage, etc. then the output from the AI model too is not correct and thus the challenges arise. Also, at times if a data scientist is not experienced enough to select the right library or algorithm for the data or domain s/he is working on and the right model is not selected such things may arise, but they contribute very minimal percentage as it can be identified during the testing phase.

Ethical AI mainly focuses on dealing with data and AI models in a responsible way and does not try to manipulate or provide any information that is not needed by an individual or an organization or may harm anyone. Organization can benefit from Ethical AI in multiple ways:

-They can follow various compliance policies across AI life cycle

-Customers can avoid any unethical behavior or can even identify them based on patterns from AI models whether internal or external and intentional or unintentional

-Customer can work in areas for human development based on their requirements

What is the best way to implement ethically robust AI by organizations?

It is multi-level implementation starting from infrastructure to data to AI models which starts from the due diligence phase itself. We need to ensure their current landscape and make sure the future landscape covers overall architecture in a right manner. It has to sustainable too along with ethical AI, so the infrastructure is able to support this for long term without any issues. Data too has to be aligned to eliminate bias and provide the right picture for AI models.
