Mobikwik tied up with Surajkund Mela to go cashless

Supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a cashless India, the world’s biggest crafts fair, Surajkund Mela is turning cashless this year with Indian mobile wallet major MobiKwik. The company will exclusively enable mobile based cashless transactions at all 1200 stalls at the 15-day extravaganza beginning February 1. The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. For the 31st Surajkund International Mela, the state of Jharkhand has been chosen to be the Theme State. At least 20 countries including Egypt and all the states of India will be participating in the Mela.

“India is changing and masses are developing the habit of paying cashless. We are proud to become the digital payments partner for the most prestigious crafts fair in the country, attended by lakhs of visitors.” Upasana Taku, MobiKwik co-founder said.

MobiKwik will also offer exciting discounts to both consumers and artisans alike who use the digital wallet to make transactions in the mela.

Upasana added, “We will be educating participating artisans and visitors on making digital payments using our application to ensure that we are successful in our endeavour to turn the mela cashless.” MobiKwik is also providing free wi-fi to enable all users in making seamless transactions.

The 15-day festival, jointly hosted by the Surajkund Mela Authority in collaboration with the Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture, External Affairs, Department of Tourism, Government of Haryana and Haryana Tourism Corporation, has come to occupy a place of pride and prominence on the international tourist calendar, attracting more than a million domestic and foreign visitors each year. Last year 1.5 million visitors attended the mela.

The availability of language options in the MobiKwik application will also ensure that the craftsmen will be able to transact effortlessly. The popular mobile wallet has recently introduced a lighter version of the app “MobiKwik LITE” that is less than 1 MB in size and is available in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Oria, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.
