As the name suggests, the Terapin CD Audio/Video recorder lets you record audio or video from various sources, and store them on CD-Rs and CD-RWs. You can take video input from camcorders, TVs, VCD players, VCRs, DVD players and cable set-top boxes. Audio sources include CDs, PCs, tapes and DVDs. After recording your stuff on a CD-R or RW, you can play the CD on any multimedia PC, VCD or DVD player that supports the CD-R or RW, or even on the Terapin recorder itself. The benefit of recording on a CD, instead of a tape, is longer lifetime of data. A tape, unlike a CD-R/RW may deteriorate with time. Moreover, you also save on valuable desktop space as CDs take lesser space than tapes.

The recorder is extremely easy to set up and use, and doesn’t require a PC to operate. You can record up to 74 mins of video on a CD. Its other features include: Disc view that splits the screen into nine frames so that you can select and play a scene of your choice. You can even do a time search and play back from a specific time on the disc. Apart from this you can forward, rewind, or see a screen in slow motion. We tried recording a video CD with the player and it was able to do so with ease. The quality of the recorded video was similar to the video source.
The recorder comes bundled with a remote control with most of the features of the player.
The Bottom Line. A good buy for those wanting to record audio and video from different sources on to a CD.
