Tulip Telecom is a data telecom service and IT solutions provider that offers IP based infrastructure solutions. They have been providing and managing multi-location wide area networks for various industry verticals. The company has been growing rapidly, and as a result, multiple silos have been created across the company's IT systems.

This lack of integration has therefore prevented the management from getting a unified view of company. Segregation of duties became difficult, manual interventions were required in a lot of processes, and there was high cross functional interference due to lack of defined roles. To match the speed of change, an integrated IT system with robust IT solutions for all business processes was desperately needed.

The company implemented an ERP solution and called it Project PUNRODAYA, which stands for Planning of Unified Narration and Removing Obstacles & Delays and Yield Accuracy in the system. The implementation is meant for the entire business process chain in Tulip Telecom and applicable to all its internal departments. While deploying PURNODAYA, one of the challenges faced by the company was to motivate cross functional business owners to move to the new system. The implementation was completed in six months and took three more months to stabilize.

The company implemented SAP's ERP Central Component 6.0 with Oracle 10G, .NET Framework, and MS SQL Server 2008. The company's web portal is based on .NET and has been integrated with the ERP solution. The data connectivity business is an extremely dynamic business and implementation and operation of a rigid system like SAP is a challenge, but due to close integration with the legacy systems this has been made possible.

The Result

PURNODAYA has helped Tulip Telecom save a lot of cost without compromising organizational controls in business transactions. Integration of SAP with the .NET based web portal has brought down the number of SAP users by at least 300 and saved license costs of upto Rs. 150 lakhs. Due to close integration with all the IT systems in the company, maximum billing accuracy has been achieved, which in turn has reduced the debtor's ageing (Accounts Receivable Ageing) by 20%. SAP DMS has brought down the physical movement of external physical documents from one office to another for approval and financial purposes, and has saved the cost of office consumables, courier and freight charges. Materials Requirement Planning and standard Supply Chain Management have reduced the inventory holdings from `80 Crores to `50 Crores.
