How is it similar to TikTok?

The feature is similar to TikTok's download feature, which gives users access to a download option below the share button. To protect the work of the original creator, uploaded reels are still saved in the device's gallery with the watermark of the original post and Instagram username.

Does it work for all users worldwide?

The update applies to all public accounts, so anyone on Instagram can upload and share reels as long as the account owner doesn't change their upload settings. For Instagram users under 18 with a public account, the download feature is initially disabled, but they can enable it at any time. In an official FAQ, Instagram presented rules to protect the privacy and accessibility of reels. Account privacy settings play a key role in determining the accessibility of Reels downloads to other users, he notes.

For public accounts, any Instagram user can upload reels. Upload settings can be customized for specific messages or the entire account. However, for users under the age of 18 with a public account, the download feature is initially disabled by default, allowing them to enable it later. Conversely, rolling uploads are limited for private accounts. This means that no one on Instagram can access the content unless the account owner chooses to make their privacy setting public.

At the same time, Instagram offers public account holders the ability to manage their upload settings. This allows them to decide if their followers can load reels or not.

Steps to follow:

  • Save and edit the reel, then click next in the lower right corner.
  • Tap more options below. Scroll down and click on Advanced Settings.
  • Find the option "Allow people to upload your list" and turn the switch on or off.
  • Choose to enable or disable charging for all coils or just a specific coil.
  • To go back, tap in the top left corner, then tap Share at the bottom.

In addition, Instagram notes that for public accounts, only recently created reels can be uploaded unless the upload settings are changed. The downloaded reels include the Instagram watermark, the username and voice of the original post. Additionally, original audio from a reel is only eligible for inclusion on an uploaded disc if the original audio containing that audio is available for download.
