WD expands NAS Storage Capacity with 6 TB, 5-Platter Hard Drive

WD is focusing to increase the capacity of storage devices as well as keep them affordable. The new WD is expanding the capacity of the home and small office NAS (network attached storage) systems with the new 5 TB and 6 TB Red SATA hard drives. The company announces 5 TB and 6 TB Red and Red Pro hard drives for NAS-specific storage aiming the medium and large business. The drives are optimized for power and performance and compatibility is tested by top NAS system manufacturers. The Red family hard drives will not only increase the capacity as well as improve bay count support with up to 8 bays, increase product breadth with WD Red Pro and more features with the latest generation of NASware technology.

WD Red - The WD Red line of 5 TB and 6 TB hard drives is is enriched with NASware 3.0, an enhanced version of WD's original NASware technology. Drives are designed to improve reliability and system performance as well as reduce customer downtime. The drives also feature 3D Active Balance Plus, an enhanced balance control technology, which significantly improves overall drive performance and reliability. And the company is exclusive offering free premium 24x7 dedicated support to its customers.

WD Red Pro - The new Red Pro line of NAS hard drives supports 8 to 16 bay NAS systems. These are designed to offer high performance storage powered by NASware 3.0. By including the WD Red Pro hard drives, the company now has a full portfolio NAS storage solution for both consumer and business NAS solutions.

WD Green - The Green line of drives are cool and quite. WD expands the capacity with 5 TB and 6 TB drives, which are integrated with WD's My Cloud, My Cloud EX2, My Cloud EX4, My Cloud Mirror personal cloud storage as well as My Book and My Book Duo external drive solutions. As well as the drives are compatible to work with a wide array of WD OEM NAS partners.

The drives will be available in India starting 2nd week of August 2014 through WD's distributor network in India. The drives would cost Red 5 & 6 TB for Rs 16,200 and Rs 19,800, Red Pro 3 & 4 TB for Rs 12000 and 16,200 respectively.
