With the aim of providing information to the Indian public in their native
language, Webdunia develped this mobile application to enable 24/7 news updates
in 9 Indian languages (Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil,
Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada). A user can get the latest news related to
national, international, sports, share, cricket and business & commodity
markets. Dainik Samachar displays content in the local language irrespective of
whether the device supports that language or not. It targets individuals who
like to commune in their own dialects. In a sense, it furthers the cause of
providing VAS in rural markets with its emphasis on local dialects and
compatibility with low-end handsets. This application is campatible for all
three: GSM, CDMA and WAP enabled handsets. It has been developed in J2ME and
Brew to support the need of almost all subscribers. In future, the company plans
to make the UI more intuitive, include tickers in the application for displaying
major headlines and quotes across the application, and add feedback feature to
enable interactions form the end users.
