Will Microsoft Bing overtakes ChatGPT as better AI chatbot service provider

The collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI, the tech startup behind ChatGPT and Dall-E, has made it very evident that search will change in the future.

According to what Microsoft demonstrated, Bing search would differ from its current state of only displaying infinite links by becoming more conversational and engaging, almost like a smart AI assistant. Let's look at what Microsoft revealed and why it came at such a crucial moment.

What is the purpose of the Bing search?

The search engine will be able to provide essays and summaries in the form of more conversational responses thanks to its new avatar. According to Microsoft's blog post, in addition to showing links, it will also provide a "summarised answer" on the right based on "consolidating reliable sources across the web."

According to the demonstrations, Bing's new chat experience will also write poems, stories, and even suggest things to do in a specific city to make search appear more personalized. However, keep in mind that this is still a limited release, and in order to gain access, users must join the waitlist. Once it starts rolling out, the Bing search experience will be available on both the desktop and the respective apps.

Well, not quite. First, links will continue to be displayed by Microsoft's Bing Search, even in essay-style responses, where they are displayed at the bottom. Currently, ChatGPT does not display links. But it's fair to say that OpenAI and the large language models (LLM) that helped create ChatGPT are providing a lot of support to Bing.

Is it comparable to ChatGPT?

The LLM that powers Bing is larger than the one used to run ChatGPT, according to Microsoft's blog post, but the exact size is not specified. In addition, this indicates that Bing's AI chat will have more responses and a larger knowledge pool than ChatGPT, whose knowledge is restricted to events that occurred prior to 2021.

However, Bing's AI chat experience will undoubtedly resemble ChatGPT. In addition to their initial question, users will be able to ask "follow-up questions."

A "Prometheus model" is what Microsoft refers to when describing the new AI features. This is what Microsoft refers to as a "proprietary way of working with the OpenAI model," and it ensures that it can use these language models effectively to produce "relevant, timely, and targeted result..."

Given that these features are still in early preview, Microsoft has warned that not all responses will be accurate. If necessary, users of Bing Search will also be able to mark an answer as incorrect, which will aid in feedback.

Users are asked to use their own judgment when using these AI-based answers because the company acknowledges that the answers may not be accurate because they are based on information from the internet. In the end, a lot of the AI chat responses are based on information from the internet, some of which may be incorrect.

So, will Bing search eventually prevail over Google?

Although it is too soon to say, Google is undoubtedly concerned by Microsoft's announcement and the widespread interest in ChatGPT. In fact, earlier this week, Google introduced Bard, its own alternative to ChatGPT.

Additionally, it will present some brand-new AI products at an AI event it is hosting in Paris later tonight. At this event, more information about Bard is also expected. Additionally, Google has pledged to include additional AI-based search features.
