New Update

Color lasers are finally reaching a level where every office can use them for

their routine printing needs. The Xerox Phaser 6120 is one such candidate for

the job. It has a rated print speed of 20 ppm for monochrome and 5 ppm for

color, both of which of course, it managed to achieve in our tests. It has all

three connectivity interfaces, viz 10/100 Ethernet, parallel, and USB ports. It

has a 300 MHz processor and by default ships with 128 MB RAM, which can be

upgraded to 640 MB. The printer has a two line LCD display that provides a

regular display of ink status as well as printer operation information. You can

also control various settings for paper, print quality, security, etc from this

panel.

Coming to print quality, we took a host of color prints, right from full page

graphics to pages with a mix of text and graphics. The print quality was

excellent for taking routine color prints in the office, which is what it's

meant to do. It's not meant for graphics professionals who need highly

accurate color replication, but can pitch in for taking color proofs, as it

supports PCL 6 and PostScript 3. Even for the text, its print clarity was clear

down to font size 2.

Despite being an entry-level color laser, the printer comes with a host of

good features. You can for instance, plug in an optional 20 GB hard drive into

the printer. This can be used for saving print jobs to it and printing them

later. The print jobs can even be password protected. You can also use the hard

drive for storing fonts, forms, etc. The printer's paper tray can handle 200

sheets, but an additional 500 sheets paper tray can also be added if required.

Bottom Line: Overall, it's a great printer for workgroups who need

to print color documents in the office. It comes with four separate cartridges

for CMY and K, each with a yield of 4500 pages.
