Xiaomi has been pretty belligerent with its pricing strategy and the way it distributes its smartphones. It has been pretty open about its expansion ambitions and it has hired former Googler Hugo Barra as VP to lead its global ambitions.

A report says that the company wants to expand to ten new markets in South Asia and Latin America, which also includes India. The report quotes Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.

This is not new at all as previously. Even Huga Barra had hinted at the same. Lei Jun told a group of reporters in Beijing that Xiaomi planned to expand in India, Russia, Brazil, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey, Philippines and Mexico.

India would likely will be among the last countries of the lot, but it has made its ambition to launch in a growing market like India quite known.

The smartphone maker is known for its Android user interface, called MIUI and its high-specced affordable smartphones that the company makes available on its website in lots, which tend to get sold out very quickly.

The phones are sold exclusively via the web which helps the company cut out the middleman and price its phones very aggressively.
