This is a good mid-range
backup device for multimedia developers and small workgroups. It’s an
internal, SCSI 2 CD-R/RW with 8x write, 4x re-write, and 24x read speeds. It
has a 4 MB buffer, ample enough for high-speed burns. This drive took about
14 minutes to burn 652.3 MB of data directly to the disk, and 19 minutes for
creating an ISO image of the data and then writing it to disk. Both are
average compared to others in its category.
The
drive did pretty well in creating audio CDs, burning 15 audio tracks in just
12 minutes, which was the lowest recorded in its category. The drive
performed at 6x speeds in this.
However, we had trouble
burning data on a RW media with the drive. The drive didn’t come with any
software, and the one we used wasn’t able to recognize it.
The drive doesn’t come with
a SCSI card. The bare drive is priced at Rs 12,500, but add to it the price
of a SCSI card and software for writing to CDs, and the price goes up to
approximately Rs 18,000. So, it’s costly if it is to be used for general
CD copying purposes.
