10 Ways the Union Budget Shall Boost Digital India

The budget plans to give a strong boost to all Digital India initiatives undertaken by the government. Here's a comprehensive list of proposals that aim to strengthen the Digital India push:

  • Aadhar Linked health cards introduced for senior citizens. Such cards shall carry comprehensive health information of the concerned senior citizen.
  • Service charge on all rail tickets booked through IRCTC website and app to be withdrawn.
  • The BHIM App has already been adopted by 1.25 crore people. The Government plans to further improvise it by launching two new schemes to promote the use of BHIM. These are referral bonus schemes for individuals and cashless schemes for merchants.
  • A new app for merchants, Aadhar Pay, to be launched. 20 Lakh Aadhaar based point of sale (PoS) terminals to be launched by September 2017.
  • Cash transactions above Rs 3 lakhs to be completely banned.
  • Political parties can only accept maximum Rs 2000 as cash donations from one source.
  • Political parties could receive donations by cheque as well as digital modes.
  • A mission will be set up with a target of over 2,500 crore digital transactions for 2017-18 through UPI, USSD, Aadhaar Pay, IMPS and debit cards.
  • All duties on PoS sale devices, finger print readers and similar devices shall be removed to promote cashless transactions.
  • Additional 10 lakh Point-of-Sale terminals shall be procured by banks by March 2017.
