Chinese App Ban in India

Indian Government has again banned 47 Chinese apps in the country. This will be the second mass app ban by the Indian Government since the first app ban that removed 59 Chinese apps in India. This new ban has removed the apps that were the Chinese clones of the banned apps. The list is awaited but with this new ban, there are now 106 apps that are banned in India. The Indian government has also made a list consisting of 250 apps that are marked for suspicious activities. There are rumors going around that many famous games might be banned this time.

This new ban on Chinese apps might even target games like PUBG Mobile and Ali Express. In the previous or the first Chinese app ban, PUBG Mobile came out unscathed but there were always rumors that it may get banned in India. PUBG Mobile is a game that has been extremely popular in the Indian market. The game was developed by Tencent which is a missive Chinese company. As of now, the list includes names like PUBG Mobile, Aliexpress, Capcut, Resso, ULike, MeiTu, and many others. This is not a full list but it still contains important names. There is also information that many apps by Xiaomi might be banned.

A press release by the Indian Government said: "The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order".
