Taipei: Meant for ultrabooks and tablets, the hard drive is the answer to today's requirements, says, Teh Ban Seng, sr VP, MD, Seagate, Asia pacific and Japan. The drive is not for the consumers but for the integrators and will soon get to see ultra portable devices like tablets and ultrabooks with the drive as the company has started shipping the drive to OEM partners.
Among the partners who they are working with already include Asus, Lenovo and Dell. In a demonstration, Ban Seng showed off a prototype Android tablet with the new 500GB drive. He went ahead to shake it vigorously while running a movie, without frames jading.
When asked where do you position the drive with so much options available already, "in the post-PC era the demand for storage will continue to go unabated with many new sources including user generated content that bring in loads of data, and this is where we come in", says Teh Ban. 500GB is the maximum that we can embed in a 5mm form factor, adds Teh Ban.
