Retina needs no introduction to security professionals. It is a very popular vulnerability assessment tool that
scans the systems and services for the possibility of attacks using loop holes
in NetBIOS, HTTP, CGI, FTP, DNS, POP3, SMTP, TCP/IP, UDP, registry,
accounts, password, published extensions, and so on.
The wizard helps you set up the application and decide the
range of IP addresses or a particular IP address on the LAN to run the scanner
against. After the check, detailed information regarding the vulnerabilities
present in that system is displayed. You can click on each of the elements to
get its details like threat, risk level, etc in the lower pane. On the other
hand, the side pane shows various options to modify the scanned addresses, port
and the audit groups. You can even generate graphical reports for different
sections which can be saved in either Word or HTML formats. Let us see
how.

Click on 'IP range' in the target type to find all the devices on your LAN. You can also select how its output is generated and set up a schedule for repetition later |
2 |
Selecting the device from the scanned IP list displays all the information in the adjacent pane and the lower pane to that shows the details about each audit performed |
3 | You can schedule scans either daily or monthly to keep an eye on your LAN |
