New Update

tsclient is a very useful and interesting software in PCQLinux 8.0. This is basically a front end for rDesktop which is terminal server client for windows machines. Using this, you can easily connect to any WinXP/NT/2000 machine in the network which

has Terminal Server (Remote Desktop Sharing for XP) enabled.

tsClient is automatically installed during Personal desktop and Workstation installs. Otherwise you can choose to install it from PCQ Specials.

Connecting through tsclient

To start using a networked Windows desktop on a Linux machine you have to go to start>extra>Internet and select the Terminal Server Client icon. Now it will ask you for the IP address of the Windows Terminal Server. If you click on the More button it will ask you for additional details like user name, password and Domain of that machine. You can also change the window size and color depth of the remote desktop from the display tab. This software also gives you the flexibility to set which local resources like key combinations (Alt + tab or Alt + Ctl + Del) will run on which machine (Local or Remote). It also allows you to set caching for improving connect speed even when you have opened many terminals in your machine. If you have used the Remote Desktop Connection Application in Win2000 or XP, you will recognize this interface immediately.

To get tsClient to connect, you need to configure Remote Desktop Sharing in Windows.

Configuring Windows XP

In WinXP, right click on My Computer and select properties. Now click on the Remote tab and under Remote Desktop, click on the allow users to connect remotely check box.

Configure Windows 2000 Server

To start Remote Desktop Sharing in Window 2000 Server or Advanced Server, you have to go to control panel/Administrative Tasks and then select Services. It will show a list of Services.

Start the Terminal Services Service by right clicking on it and selecting Start, and it will start sharing its desktop. If the service shows as being disabled, then, double click on it and change the startup option to automatic or manual.
