This 5.1 speaker set is the best of all Adcom’s speakers we’ve reviewed this time. The satellites are the same as the others, but the subwoofer is much bigger, measuring 210 x 210 x 300 mm. Besides the speakers, there’s a separate console to connect everything together. It has separate volume controls for the rear, front and center channels and a separate master volume and bass control. For those who like it, there’s a headphone jack on the console. Like other Adcom speaker sets with more than two channels, this, too, can be connected to a sound card that only supports stereo output. Finally, we come to the reason why most people buy speakers: sound quality and experience. Since the five satellites are the same as those in the other sets, their acoustic response is quite similar, too. The sound quality is good, but the frequency response is unequal across the spectrum. Around 17.5 kHz, one can make out a slight distortion that only gets louder with higher frequencies. The woofer handles the bass well at low volumes, but distortion creeps in at high volumes. Whether this will suit you or not depends on your listening tastes. If you like loud music with room-thumping bass, the ACSPHT-4800 is not the best thing around. If you listen to light music , it makes for a

good choice.
