Why gaming?

Gaming has seen exponential growth in India since the Financial year 2019. It has been adopted as a profession, recreational activity as well as a side hustle by a lot of people. The reason why Airtel is focussing on the gaming front is that it is the future and it will transform the way you play games.

Users no need to have specific hardware, RAM or processor to have the best gaming experience. Cloud gaming takes away the dependency on devices and enables you to play on any device anywhere.

The second benefit is connectivity. 5G comes with wider connectivity than ethernet and WIFI. The company is planning on expanding the infrastructure in the coming years and it brings in the possibility of playing anytime and anywhere without worrying about being connected to a stable WIFI network.

Speed is a major upgrade that 5G will be seeing when players game on this network. When playing multiplayer mobile games like BGMI, Call of Duty: Mobile etc. it is very important to have a lag-free gaming experience. Airtel claims that the 5G network will be ultra-responsive even on mobile devices making sure you have a flawless gaming experience.

Latency is another major roadblock that players face while playing online games. Latency means the delay in response to a command. The Airtel 5G network will match the game requirements of latency and make sure that your in-game commands don’t take time and you do not miss any frames. This will enhance the reaction time of the gamers and help them react in a better manner to all the challenges in the game.

What do the gamers have to say?

Famous Indian esports players Mortal and Mamba have tested the network. Describing their experience Mortal and Mamba said: “We were totally blown away. This was a high-end PC and console-quality gaming experience on a smartphone. We can say with confidence that 5G will truly unlock the online gaming scene in India and massify by creating opportunities to build and publish games out of India and bringing a lot of talented gamers from small towns to the mainstream. Thank you, Airtel for giving us this wonderful opportunity.”

Innovators Speak

Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel added: “Cloud gaming will be one of the biggest use cases of 5G thanks to the combination of high speed and low latency. After delivering India’s first 5G demo over a test network, we are thrilled to conduct this exciting 5G gaming session. Imagine enjoying real-time gaming on the go with someone sitting in another part of the world. This is just the beginning of an exciting digital future that Airtel will enable for its customers as we prepare to roll out 5G in India.”

Earlier this year, Airtel successfully demonstrated 5G services over a LIVE 4G network in Hyderabad, marking an industry first. It is also conducting 5G trials in multiple cities across India and validating technologies and use cases through the trial spectrum allotted by the Department of Telecom. Airtel has partnered with Ericsson and Nokia for these trials.

Airtel is also spearheading the O-RAN Alliance initiatives in India to build 5G solutions. It has already announced partnerships with Tata Group, Qualcomm, Intel, Mavenir and Altiostar.
