New Update

Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite has been a runaway success ever since its presence in the market and most of this success is owed to the company's simplistic and user friendly approach to its e-reader device. Typically one would go with tablets as the right form factor but with the Paperwhite's e-ink display the reading experience is quite a joyous one. The next generation Paperwhite is here and we are interested in finding out if there is anything better to it that might excite us more.

What you get

The new Paperwhite version comes in the same 6 inch form also, the exterior looks/ body remains the same but becomes lighter at 206 grams, which may not be a big deal but the difference was worth pointing out. Moving further, the display offers better brightness levels and we like the fact that the whites look white and the blacks are the same as well. We had previously highlighted the need foro Paperwhite to become more responsive especially while making use of the touch screen. According to Amazon, this Paperwhite comes with 25% faster processor capability and much to our delight the difference is quite notable and worthy of mentioning. It offers the same 8-week battery life on single charge.

Design and Performance

We've already mentioned that the Paperwhite looks, feels and designed like the previous version but Amazon has managed to streamline the built size to a manageable 206 grams (previous one was 220 grams). Instead of Kindle you have Amazon branding at the back, the matte finish makes it sturdy for long-time reading keeping it in one hand. Display looks more vibrant, reading friendly, colors visible on the e-ink display may reading a joyful experience. The touch response on the device has become more prominent and faster with better hardware underneath the device.

Addition of Good Reads, Vocabulary Builder helps avid readers to have fun with their reading whereever they go. Kindle FreeTime feature for enabling parents to help nurture and develop reading habit in their kids. Experimental browser only works with Wi-Fi connectivity (not the in-built 3G option), that said we like its inclusion. The internal storage space remains the same 2 GB and sadly Amazon does not feel the need to have a microSD slot which is mainly thanks to Amazon's wide range of book title collection, regarded as the best e-book catalogue in the country. Even with a brighter e-ink display and faster processor the battery life of the Paperwhite remains competent and easily lasts up to weeks on single charge.
