New Update

The Problem: It was a challenge for a Lab Administrator to keep the computer lab operational. Firstly, the job required routine maintenance of computers. If desktop got reset due to any reason, the user lost his/her data. At times, students deliberately uninstalled program from the desktop. Each desktop was to be updated for Windows and antivirus critical patches.

The Solution: To resolve these issues, the team evaluated Citrix, Virtual PC from VMware and N-Computing. After testing, it was found that N-Computing was the most suitable one. It not only solved the above mentioned issues but also saved electrical power and reduced e-waste. N-Computing is basically a network adaptor (with power consumption of 5 watts) used in-place of a desktop CPU (power consumption 160 watts) which gives a complete desktop screen of N-Computing Server.

The Result: The complete project not only reduced the operational problems of the computer labs by 95% but also reduced one time cost of reducing UPS from 10 KVA to 3 KVA. The recurring electrical and cooling cost was reduced. It also reduced the amount of e-waste which was generally 300 to 500 desktops every year.
