Google is anticipated to release the next Android 14 version on 4 October 2023, along with its new Pixel lineup, which includes the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel Watch 2.
According to TechRadar, every Pixel smartphone, beginning with the Pixel 4a, would receive the Android 14 update alongside the release of the new Pixel devices, as stated by Canadian carrier Telus in a forum post that has subsequently been changed.
Even still, all indicators point to the release of Android 14 today, which is likely to include a slew of new features. The Google Pixel 8 launch event will take place tonight at 7.30 pm IST and broadcast live on Google's website and YouTube channel.
Here are the six most interesting Android 14 innovations we're looking forward to.
Custom lock screen
Google has been unable to create a configurable lock screen on its Pixel handsets, trailing Samsung and Apple. Users can personalise their lock screen through dynamic clock design and screen colours with the future Android 14 version.
Users of Android 14 will be able to create shortcuts to features such as do not disturb, QR code scanning, torch, and wallet.
Satellite connectivity
Following in the footsteps of Apple's SOS by satellite function, Android 14 should include satellite connectivity, which should emerge in more phones as time passes.
It needs to be determined what this functionality will look like on Android 14. It's also critical to have the proper hardware to enable this feature. Thus, high-end models should be able to support it, or you may have to wait for a suitable device.
Notification flashes
Notification flashes are nothing new to Android phones, but with the impending Android 14 upgrade, this feature is likely to be integrated into the fundamental functionality of the operating system.
When you receive a notification, the feature will flash your phone screen or torch, making it especially handy for people with hearing difficulties.
Improved battery
Google is making various changes to its software to enhance battery life. Although no major changes are predicted, Android 14 is expected to improve how your Android phone performs background operations, improving battery life.
Google will now display your screen time since your last full charge. The function was deleted in Android 12, although it is scheduled to return in Android 14.
Personalised access to files
Google will give consumers more control over what files apps can access in Android 14. Do you want to provide applications access to a few photos? That should be possible with Android 14. This way, your privacy is protected in advance.
