Barra, as you might recall has been part of Android's overall product planning and was part of the Nexus launch events that were hosted by Google in 2012 and earlier this year at the Google I/O event.

What comes as a surprise is that Barra's next destination is at China-based brand Xiaomi which has created ripples in the Chinese smartphone market and now with Barra on board looks to be eyeing greater share pie in the global market.

Xiaomi for those who are not aware is a bigger brand in China than Apple and has been selling at breakneck speed since its launch in the market and it hopes to make use of Barra's Android experience to enter other markets as well.

According to reports, Barra starts his tenure at Xiaomi as head of international business development from October. It remains to be seen who replaces Barra at Google and join the Android team with Sundar Pichai.
