We used a standard 7200 RPM 1TB SATA HDD for testing its network
capabilities. It took 4 minutes and 51 seconds to transfer 1GB of data which is
decent. This NAS enclosure comes with a Web management tool which helps you
manage and control the functions and advance operations of the device. The Web
interface has mainly two categories, administration and tools. Talking of
administration, it allows you to control your LAN settings, like naming the
workgroup and choosing the protocol between DHCP and static IP.
There is also a 'tab' for FTP server settings, which apart from giving you
the obvious option to select the port of the FTP server, lets you enable or
disable downloads and uploads for users on the network. You can also limit the
number of connections from this menu.
You can add or delete users on the NAS by assigning them username and
passwords from this menu and also view the hard disk status. The tools section
includes scheduling, restarting the device and firmware upgrade. Also, options
like formatting the hard disk, saving your current configuration or restoring to
factory defaults are available. It can also be used as your local external hard
drive.
Bottomline: Overall, a good product packed with all the features you
need from a NAS enclosure. However, placing a hard disk can be a little time
consuming.
