Apple is developing a bezel free notch free iPhone display

The iPhone 10 was released in 2017, and it was the company's first smartphone with very slim side bezels and a relatively thick notch at the top to hide the selfie camera and face IDs. It was also the first iPhone to do away with the home button on the display, which also functioned as a fingerprint scanner. This design remained unchanged until Apple released the iPhone 14 Pro series last year. The business altered the notch design, creating what Apple calls a "dynamic island." That is going away shortly, and we will finally see an iPhone with no notch and no bezels for an edge-to-edge display experience.

Apple is collaborating with Samsung and LG to create a bezel-less, notch-less display

According to Ice Universe, which obtained the information from the South Korean website The Elec, Apple is collaborating with Samsung and LG to create a bezel-less, notch-less display. The business will use an OLED display, as it has done since the iPhone 12 series. According to the article, Apple intends to stick with flat panels, but several Android rivals use curved displays on their mid-tier devices. It also implies that a bezel-less iPhone will feel like a giant glass slab in your hand, potentially resulting in some unintentional touches.

Apple to embed the camera as Samsung did with the Galaxy Z Fold 4

According to the source, Apple intends to embed the camera and crucial sensors behind the display, as Samsung did with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. To achieve a bezel-less screen, thin film encapsulation (TFE) and under-panel camera (UPC) technologies must be solved. TFE safeguards the OLED against moisture and oxygen. Although bezel-less smartphones are not new, mainstream players have yet to implement this technology in commercial units widely. In 2021, Xiaomi unveiled a concept smartphone using Quad Curved Waterfall Display technology, which envelops the sides with the display to create an immersive look.

When can we expect the bezel-free, notch-free iPhone?

The notch-less, bezel-less iPhone's launch date is still being determined, but we may expect Apple to wait another year before pursuing this design. In September of this year, Apple will likely release the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series. According to various leaks, Apple will keep the exact display sizes for all four iPhones in the series: 6.1 inches (iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro) and 6.7 inches (iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max). However, all new phones this year are expected to include a dynamic island notch that adapts in size depending on the notification.

It is also feasible that Apple is internally testing a notch-less, bezel-less display that will not be available commercially for several years.
