Sep 12, San Francisco: A huge media crowd waited outside the venue of the iPhone 5 launch hours before the official time of the announcement. Though we couldn't attend the launch, here's what we've heard and read about it so far.

The new iPhone is of course thinner and lighter than the previous edition, weighing just 112 grams (20% lighter than the iPhone 4S). It has a longer, 4 inch display with 1136x640 resolution. The phone comes with 4G LT connectivity. The phone is based on an A6 chip, which according to Apple has twice the compute power of of the A5 chip.

The iPhone 5's front facing camera supports 720p, while the regular camera continues with 8 MP. Battery life has apparently improved, with 8 hours of 3G talk time and 10 hours of WiFi browsing. Standby time is 225 hours. The new phone comes with the latest iOS 6, and the OS will be avaiable for older phones later.

The iPhone 5 will be available in black and white colors, in 16, 32, and 64 GB versions. It will ship on September 21st in the US, and apparently, it will be available in India during Diwali time.
