The "My Photo Stream" service from Apple will end on 26 July 2023, and users are recommended to switch to iCloud Photos on all of their Apple devices moving future for secure photo storage in the cloud. The company advises users to use iCloud Photos for image syncing across devices. Apple will discontinue the My Photo Stream service on 26 July 2023, the company stated on Friday. The free service has been accessible since iCloud was made public in 2011.
My Photo Stream was introduced in 2011 along with iCloud
My Photo Stream, introduced in 2011 along with iCloud, provided a free way to sync up to 1000 photos from the previous 30 days across all Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. As part of the transition, Apple notifies users that new photo uploads from their devices to My Photo Stream will cease one month before the service is discontinued, which works out to be 26 June 2023.
"Any photographs submitted to the service before that time will stay in iCloud for 30 days following the upload date and will be accessible from any of your devices that currently have My Photo Stream turned on. Apple says there won't be any images on iCloud after 26 July 2023, and the service will be discontinued.
Will My Photo Stream users lose their pictures?
My Photo Stream users should be informed that the images are already saved on "at least one of your devices." Users won't lose their pictures if the original photos are still on a device. To prevent losing any images, it is advised to save any that are not already in your collection (for example, on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac). There is no risk of losing photos during the shutdown process because every image in My Photo Stream is saved on at least one Apple device in its original format. Apple advises users who want their photographs on a specific device to keep them in their Photo Library by 26 July.
Users will have to rely on iCloud photographs in the future to save and sync photographs between their Apple devices. It's vital to know that if you use up your allotted 5GB of free storage, you'll have to pay for more space.
