New Update

The dual 7800GT from ASUS is incredibly fast and we suspect

it will be faster than the regular 7800GT SLI cards because the internal bus

that connects the two GPUs is much faster than the external SLI bridge we

normally use.

The card looks stunning with its contoured designs and dual

heat-sinks with a front plate. While it's huge and bulky, it looks powerful.

ASUS has very provided an external power supply so that you can use it even if

you don't have a molex connector. The card has two DVI connectors and two

slots for putting in VGA dongles. Thus you can connect four displays to it when

the card is not running in SLI. As they claim in a pamphlet inside, our package

didn't bundle Call of Duty 2 and the VGA dongles. There is other software

included for making DVDs and other such stuff. We would've preferred if ASUS

had bundled in a couple of more games instead because that is what it's

primarily meant for.

We used Coolbits to unlock the clock settings and

overclocked the card to 514 MHz for the clock speeds and 1.3 GHz memory speeds.

This was the most stable setting we could obtain. Our test rig consisted of an

AMD Athlon X2 4800+, ASUS A8Nx32-SLI with a Beta BIOS version 0805. Despite

being Beta, this board far outshines the other boards we have seen, and we just

hope that the perform goes up in the final version! We plugged in 1 GB of DDR400

RAM and a 120GB 7200rpm SATA HDD.

Bottom Line: We would say: don't buy it. The

reason is not that the card doesn't perform, it does and quite beautifully at

that, but the price is just too high at 69k. You are better off buying an SLI

solution of the same GPU (costing 60k for two 7800GTs 256 MB). In fact, due to

compatibility issues, this card runs only on some SLI boards. For detailed test

results and compatibility list, refer to PCQuest forums.
